Light Cognac 20 mm Classic Leather Strap - Ca. 120 cm

This leather is a corrected grain leather, which is made from top grain hides, with some imperfections on the surface. In corrected grain leather the surface has been buffed to sand all the imperfections away. And after an artificial grain is stamped on it, to give a more uniform look. Corrected Grain Leather is considered almost as durable as Full-Grain Leather. These straight cut leather belts are soft on one side with a pleasant feel in the hand. The other side is smooth and pigmented with a slightly glossy finish. This makes them perfect for making dog collars, horse halters, leather adapters, straps for sandals or bags, small leather goods (haberdashery) or decorations. Tanning and finishing process:

Now let's look at the tanning and finishing process; First the leather is tanned using mineral salts, to make it more supple. After that it´s retanned using only vegetable tannins and materials. Then the grain side is treated manually with oil, to achieve a soft and rough looking grain side.

The leather is semi-aniline dyed, which is a process very similar to pure aniline leather. The tanning process begins the same as for aniline leathers. It is dyed with purely aniline dyes in vats, so that the colour goes all the way through. The leather is deeply impregnated with the dye, to give it a rich and deep colour. Though the treatment of pure aniline stops after the dying process, semi aniline leathers are further treated. So, after the leather is aniline dyed, a slightly protective coating with some pigmentation is used to give you this beautiful finish. A great feature to semi-aniline leather is you get the authentic pores and scratches which can still be seen because of the aniline dye, but you also get the beautiful colour and protection from the coating.
